Every day is worse than the day before.
It's the holidays. Neither of my children will be here and I haven't
seen my grandchildren in 15 months (since my relapse started). I
know, I'm lucky to have a good husband, and to have family at all,
wherever they are. But I'm a bit down, and I imagine I'm not the only
one. A difficult season to be less than yourself.
I log on to internet to find friendship, to find community with those
who suffer from The Disease along with me.
And I also get comfort from this list - from the new science, the
hope for my dear friends, and the hope that the kids who are sick now
WILL get to love normal lives.
Instead, I feel like I fell into the Pirates of the Caribbean, with
two big ships lobbing cannon fire at each other as I disappear down
the whirlpool.
It is the season of peace. Can we have a break?
It's quite lovely here in Delaware, a rare 18" snowstorm. I don't
have to go out in it - To be truthful, I'm forbidden to go out in it.
A kind neighbor with a snowblower has cleaned everything off - he
insisted despite Bob's protests, saying that with me sick, Bob
shouldn't be taking any risks with his back. Such nice people.
My two Irish setters leap around in the snow - the only way they can
get through it, because it's as high as their legs. Pop! Pop! Pop!
I wish I could share the beauty of the frozen creek down the hill,
with a little Christopher Robins-sized woods, Cardinals and in the
air, the unmistakable sound of Canadian geese.
Please, my friends.
Peace on earth, good will to men.
Shalom.
