NOT: Federal Register Announcement - Reorganization of CDC Units by Director Thomas Frieden MD MPH

Note: Historically it is common for incoming directors to reorganize and
re-prioritize the CDC organizational structure. In this case Dr. Thomas
Frieden is changing the reorganization done by outgoing Director Julie
Gerberding and which was announced on April 21, 2005.

What is not noted in this current notice is whether the CFS Research Progra=
m
remains under the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious
Diseases and thus under the Office of Infectious Diseases.

Statement of Organization, Functions, and Delegations of Authority

This reorganization is being undertaken to strengthen CDC=92s response to H=
1N1
and other public health emergencies, establish systems to better identify
and
address leading causes of death and disability, and strengthen CDC=92s abil=
ity
to support state and local action to improve health.

The following organizational units are deleted in their entirety:

=95 Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases (CV)
National Center for Zoonotic, Vector-Borne, and Enteric Diseases (CVH)

They are now under the following organizational administration

=95 Office of Infectious Diseases (CV):
The Office of Infectious Diseases is headed by a Deputy Director and
provides strategic direction on infectious disease activities to its
components which are as follows:

National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (CVG)
National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (CVJ)
National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (CVL)

IV. Delegations of Authority: All delegations and redelegations of authorit=
y
made to officials and employees of affected organizational
components will continue in them or their successors pending further
redelegation, provided they are consistent with this reorganization.
