Just wanted to forward the latest that the CFL (ad hoc) Impact Working
Group has gathered in the way of
research.=A0 MCS, ME/CFS, ES and FMS are among others mentioned as
linked as medical illnesses in Helen Irlen's, "The Irlen
Revolution"resulting from her thirty years of working with patients,
including recently Gulf War veterans on this technology induced
complication to neurological, immunological, dermatological and
opthalmic issues.
Of special importance is the European Union's prelimary SCENIHR report
on health effects of lighting.

my behalf if you don't mind.=A0 Our brains are about gone compiling this
with a cross-disability spectrum.=A0 The working group has had two
disabled activists with MCS, one with CFS/MCS/Lyme/Migraines, one with

Environmental Sciences Dept., Trent University, Canada whose work was
instrumental in rollback of Canada's ban for medical and technological
reasons, Helen Irlen, and disabled former transportation CEO, advisor

- A special education teacher reporting the observed tonic-clonic
and absence seizures, and hyperactivity in the presence of
fluorescents.
- A severely disabled 1990-1991 Gulf War Vet, describing the pulse
of fluorescents causing blinding migraines and light sensitivity.
- A nutrition scientist at a university College of Veterinary
Medicine, reports her personal experiences with fluorescents causing
humming/buzzing noise, and the flickering results in
headache/nausea/unwell.
- Fibromyalgia and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFIDS) patient
reports that any exposure to fluorescent lighting exacerbates her
symptoms to the point of relapse, and if relapse, lengthens recovery
time exponentially.
- ME and right occipital nerve damage patient reports 14 years of
adverse response to fluorescents, including in medical setting trigger
severe nausea, sometimes vomiting, and severe migraine.
- A former teacher, and patient with Meniere=92s Disease, CFS/ME
(44 yrs), FMS (10 yrs), reports brain fog, headaches, blurring of
vision in fluorescents. Some symptom remission when leaving the
lighting.
- Patient with Migraines, FMS/CFIDS reports fluorescent-induced
symptoms of photophobia, worsened =93spacing out=94, eye and head fatigue
from the flickering light.
- Patient with fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome, past
multiple whiplash injuries reports light sensitivity, headache,
mental confusion. She is a former teacher based on her experiences
and professional observations who is convinced that a lot of the
behavior and other school problems are caused by overexposure to
school fluorescents; and is concerned this artificial fluorescent
lighting-induced problem is also present in nursing homes and
hospitals.
- CFS/FM/MCS patient reports her medical problems from the
flickering and glare of fluorescents result in mental confusion,
headache, difficulty concentrating or reading. She is also concerned
about additional mercury body burden.
A patient with CEBV, CFIDS, Fibromyalgia and Migraines reports
fluorescents triggering her migraines, glare, eye pain, vision
problems and feeling of mild nausea.
- Fibromyalgia patient reports her physical therapist describing
problems of a child coming for therapy that required staff turning out
fluorescents in the waiting room, and use of small lamp in treatment
room. She also reported one burning out in her presence,
flickering, cracking and then released mercury vapors swirling around
her bulb, and called it her own =93mercury shower.=94
- Former university psychology professor, now a severe MCS
patient, reports lack of her ability now to tolerate fluorescents,
LEDs or halogens. She describes her symptoms as all getting some type
of seizure activity going that seems to scramble her brain, with
mental confusion for a long time after exposure. Also triggers
irritability and lack of ability to focus thinking.
- Former insurance salesperson, with MCS reports when in
cognitive therapy through Vocational Rehabilitation in fluorescent
lighting, most of the patients got headaches, leading to the therapist
suggesting meeting in the dark or wearing sunglasses.
