I started my blog Hysterical Woman, because after being sick for 7 years, I
have experienced a strong undercurrent of subverted sexist attitudes toward
women living with chronic illness, among the medical community, and society
in general. The "all in your head" attitude from many doctors and family
members is akin to getting a diagnosis of "hysteria" and it makes me wonder
if modern medicine has progressed past the 1880s yet, when it comes to
prejudice toward sick women! I have a hunch we'd be further along with
research if CFS/ME affected mostly men, and I'm not afraid of saying so.
With this in mind, I have begun to do research to see if there is any
concrete evidence to back up my theories, and I am slowly (due to being
housebound and too sick to write often) uncovering data and studies showing
that sexism is deeply ingrained in modern medical practice, and seems to be
confounding the problems of patients (men included) with CFS/ME and other
chronic disease. My blog topics are about feminism, CFS/ME and
Fibromyalgia, current research, and personal experiences.
I have been reading Co-Cure for about a year, but my blog is fairly new and
this is my first post here, so here goes!
