Professor Olav Mella and Dr. =D8ystein Fluge discovered earlier in the
autumn, a strong effect of the cancer drug Rituximab against the
disease ME. The results of the research attracted attention worldwide.

Also in Health Affairs, which now opens the state's budget for the two doct=
ors.

=96 This is a work they have done outside his job at Haukeland
University Hospital. We want to get the research continued in a
slightly larger context, and to achieve that, we have granted the two
millions. Health West will also use the money to continue this
research, says Health Minister Anne-Grete Str=F8m-Erichsen, to TV 2

Extends the research
The two million is earmarked for research that the two doctors have
asked to carry on more patients. Although many have been hoping for a
medicine that works, emphasizes the doctors that there must be more
research to be sure of the effect.

=96 I am very proud of the work they have done. They stress that it is
they do not have all the answers yet, so we think it is right to go in
with support to ensure a broader research on cancer medicine's
effects, says health minister.

New Centre
Str=F8m-Erichsen could also today announce how the new National Centre
for ME to be located. It becomes part of the Oslo University.

=96 This is an important resource to get up. There are many who are
affected by this disease, and therefore it is important to gather
knowledge about how to treat different patients. Until now,
researchers did not know what kind of treatment that actually works,
says Str=F8m-Erichsen.

She believes it is important to be prudent in the future work with ME.

=96 It offers hope that scientists in Bergen discovered that the cancer
drug works for some patients. Now put it in again with a larger study,
so we get even clearer answers on how this medication affects
patients.
