with his cardiologist and other patients, "High blood pressure and
orthostatic intolerance can easily co-exist. Indeed, high blood
pressure is one way for the body to fight orthostatic intolerance. OI
is an incapacity to properly raise blood pressure under certain
conditions, particular when the head rises suddenly. Tachycardia is
one way to compensate, but high blood pressure is another. Quite a
number of ME and CFS patients with exercise and alcohol intolerance
have high blood pressure that I know of, including me. This doesn't
stop me from passing out when walking up stairs though. The OI is
still capable of exceeding the protective effect of high blood
pressure."
It was also brought to my attention that some viral infections have
been tentatively linked to metabolic syndrome as well as factors such
as obesity. Another issue raised was how patients with CFS in the
studies were defined.
