Peer Review site concluded with the following paragraph:
"...NIH-sponsored studies of an association of XMRV with CFS are in
progress. Work continues in the blood community, under the auspices of
the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), on the
characterization of serological and nucleic acid assays, with plans to
assess both donor prevalence and transfusion transmission. In the wake
of the Lombardi paper, AABB recommended that donors with a history of
CFS be provided with information requesting that they voluntarily
refrain from blood donation. Despite growing evidence that XMRV is not
an etiological agent, an FDA advisory committee has recommended that
deferral be maintained on the grounds that donation may not be safe
for these individuals and that since the etiology of CFS is unknown,
it would be prudent to continue it."
